Phoebe has not been a midwife for long. Her pregnant sister-in-law dragged her into a ship in order to get to her husband before her baby was to be born, but at the same time, she doesn't really want Phoebe to touch her, which makes for a strange situation.

While on board, Phoebe finds out that the captain of the ship is using her sister-in-law to help get her husband free from captivity in order to get to another person. This whole book is about whether or not one should seek revenge and what God would want one to do, however, the captain is not a believer.

There is a love story that unfolds throughout the book. It is not a bad story, but the whole "ken" thing said constantly by the Scottish captain gets to be annoying. Also, They don't have to type "doot" when they mean "doubt". . . just have him talk and I'll hear the Scottish accent while I read it, knowing he is Scottish. haha.

This was the 2nd in the series of the mid wives and was quite intriguing. Trained by our mid wife in the first book, our lady is faced with dealing with her past, as well as the intrigue of the present. What will the future hold for her? Certainly, she will grow and learn as time marches on. It was a fun read
The book was good but not so good I couldn't put it down. In some respect, I found it not very believable.
This author does a great job of weaving God, love, forgiveness and redemption into the storyline . A must read.
This is another excellent new author that I am thoroughly enjoying. The first book was so good that I was unsure that the 2nd could stand up to it and I was not disappointed. Yes, I have started the 3rd book in the series. I love the characters and how the story unfolds. I am a fan of Christian, historical books!
But I didn't much. I absolutely loved books one and three, but book two missed the mark for me. There were so many "logic" moments where I was pulled out of the story, thinking "that would NEVER happen" or "is she really that dumb?" Not so with the other two books. I have enjoyed her other books/series immensely, and will continue to read her work. Still, even though I didn't care for it, I would recommend reading it if you are going to read book three. The series as a whole are worth reading.
Belinda Chapman's husband is a prisoner of the British Navy. Belinda wants him back. Rafe Docherty is a British Privateer who wants George Chapman for purposes of his own. Phoebe Lee is Belinda's sister-in-law and Belinda wants Phoebe to be her midwife, so she kidnaps Phoebe to sail on Rafe's brigantine.

This book has everything, Laurie Alice Eakes knows how to spin a story and I thoroughly enjoyed this one. It's got swashbuckling fights, deep emotions, mutiny, intrigue, forgiveness, and much more. Hearts Safe Passage is the second novel in the Midwives Series and if there is another book to this series, I can't wait to read it.
I didn't read them in the right order. I read 3 then 1 now the 2nd. They are stand alone but Knowing how awesome the thirds one is I will wait a while before I retread it.
If you love mystery, adventure, romance, great plot and dialog this is the author for you. Her characters must come to terms with their relationship with Heavenly Father in a very real and sound way without being preachy.
Rafe is Scottish, a really strong man and their relationship is every bit as believable as the ones in the first two I read. I have now purchased a new set of three based in Cornwall. Can't wait...she is fast becoming my favorite author in this genre along side Laura Frantz and Tamara Alexander. You are right there in the story, with people you would want over for dinner and some fun games. Excellent in every way to please a book hound.
