Autumn in the Dark Meadows The Autumn Series Volume 2 Kirby Howell Books
Even with all the rave reviews I was wary of whether this second installment could rank up there with the first and I must admit that it more than held its own. The story picked right up from where the last book left off and continued at the same steady pace that kept me in its grips until I finished (in a few short hours too because I just couldn't put it down!). I absolutely love how the storyline is progressing and how the characters are developing along with it. Autumn and Grey's relationship seems sweet, real and relatable to any reader regardless of their age and I love how the story isn't overrun with a sappy love story but touches on real concerns that would crop up in any kind of relationships that are formed during a post-apocalyptic, life-and-death situation like this. Some aspects of the plot were a bit easy to predict but were not so glaringly obvious as to ruin the story. However, the way the story ended so abruptly leaves me no choice but to read the last book because now I really really really want to know how this ends!!!Tags : Amazon.com: Autumn in the Dark Meadows (The Autumn Series) (Volume 2) (9780989036412): Kirby Howell: Books,Kirby Howell,Autumn in the Dark Meadows (The Autumn Series) (Volume 2),Streetlights Publishing,0989036413,Dystopian,Juvenile Fiction Dystopian,Science fiction (Children's Teenage)
Autumn in the Dark Meadows The Autumn Series Volume 2 Kirby Howell Books Reviews
I could not wait to read this book after finishing the first one. It certainly met all my expectations. Autumn and her new family are still fighting for survival after the virus that wiped most of the human race. The characters come to life and keep you wanting to know more about them. I am waiting for the third book. A series that is a "must" read for all people that enjoy a good post apocalyptic book.
I am Nicole Hill, AKA Chloe Raynes, fellow writer, and I have to say, Im absolutely hooked on this book series. In the rise of book 2 I couldnt stop reading because I couldnt wait to see what was going to happen next. Now Im anxiously waiting for the last book to come out and cant wait to see what happens to Autumn next, anticipation is killing me. I love, love, love the Autumn series and have become rather attached to Autumn and Grey, they are my favorite two characters. I can tell you, with this book there are surprises around every corner and Im sure there are more to come with the third. I wont give any detail away, because I encourage you to read these books for yourself. If you like "end of the world" books this series is a must read.
In the vein of Stephanie Meyer and Veronica Roth. Take creatures / species / persons that you've only dreamed of existing written so brilliantly that they're not campy, but credible, so much so that you start to wonder about the possibility... could it be? Now place them in the backdrop of our present-day world in this dystopian society and battles of epic proportions with people so wonderfully created you feel like you've known them all along and are on their journey with them, watching them struggle and cheering them on through life and love. Well done Kirby Howell! Ready for more....
I enjoyed reading this book more than the first in the series, but I can't explain why. The writing style didn't change. The characters were all back. The story was as exciting. Maybe I had accepted the premise (which I won't go into in case others wish to read the series from the beginning) that involved one of the characters. It was a good book. I will certainly read the last in this series.
The second book in the Autumn series did not disappoint! I applaud Kirby Howell on another very well written book, right after I finished Autumn in the City of Angels I picked up Dark Meadows and continues reading the series. The books are seamless. I really like how they incorporated some of the back story from the first book to refresh the readers mind. I was pretty sad at the end of the first book to see that Autumn and Grey parted was and was rooting for them to find their way back to each other. I don't want to give spoilers out for those that haven't read the second book yet. But, I will say buckle up because you are in for a wild ride. Again Kirby Howell have wrote seamlessly together and the book was an amazing read. I can't wait to see what happens in the third book and cannot wait for it to be released!!
I read this book right after Autumn in the City of Angels because I wanted to know what happens next to all these characters I've grown attached to! That's one thing I really like about the Autumn series - there is a whole cast of well-written and likable characters, and those characters are deepened further in this second installment. (Confession I'm a total Shad fangirl! His role is small in City of Angels, but in Dark Meadows, he gets to show in a big way that he's more than just comic relief. )
Dark Meadows opens with Autumn and the other L.A. survivors building a new life in the seemingly idyllic town of Hoover, though the threat of another attack from evil Front leader Karl is always hanging over them. A deadly emergency in their sister town of Las Vegas causes a crew from Hoover - including Autumn and Grey, whose relationship has hit a snag - to ride to the rescue in a sand storm. There, odd things keep happening to cut off their contact with Hoover, and Autumn and Grey must solve the mystery of who's behind all the trouble ... and whether their relationship can be saved.
I liked Dark Meadows just as much as City of Angels. I love dystopian books and seeing how the survivors cope with the new world that's left to them, and we get lots of that good gritty stuff here. Dark Meadows is like the second act of The Stand, when the survivors are building a community in Boulder (one of my favorite parts of that book).
The relationship stuff between Autumn and Grey is in a new phase, but it's just as poignant and interesting as it was the first go-round. Autumn's friendships with Ben, Rissi, Connie and Shad - along with some new characters - are beautifully drawn as well. I think one reason Autumn is such a lovable protagonist is her loyalty and love for her new "family."
The cliffhanger at the end of the book is making me crazy, though. I want the third book! Paris? Yes, please!
